SU Scotland has administered  Pray for Schools Scotland (formerly Schools Prayer Network) in Scotland since 2006 with the aim of supporting and encouraging people who pray for their local school.

Around 1300 Scottish schools are currently being covered in prayer, out of a total of approximately 2700 schools. The number of schools registered has trebled in the last eighteen months, and there is a real buzz about schools prayer with many people emailing to say they wish to be linked up with others who are praying, asking if their school is registered, and reporting back answers to prayer. SU schools workers are highlighting the need for schools prayer in their local areas, and there are instances of schools which have been “closed” to Christian input suddenly inviting SU staff to lead assemblies and wishing a Christian group for their pupils!

There are several different events in the Pray for Schools Scotland diary:

Strictly Come Praying

Back to School with God Sunday

European Pray Day

Pray Any Way

Strictly Come Praying is a youth prayer event aimed at 11-18 year olds and is held in two separate locations in March. The day includes worship, Bible teaching, workshops, interactive prayer stations and group prayer times;

At the end of the summer, materials including an all-age talk, children’s activities, sketch, powerpoint slides and bookmark are produced for Back to School with God Sunday, which is an opportunity for the local church to pray for their school staff and young people as they return to school after the summer break. Back to School with God Sunday has spread beyond Scotland, so that now churches in different countries use the materials at the start of the new school term. Register your church at

Downloadable resources are available to support Pray Day for Schools each November, with suggestions on how to pray as individuals and groups at church, in school and at home, plus interactive prayer stations suitable for use with young people.

Finally, Pray Any Way is a “Prayer Party” for children and their families, providing an opportunity to pray together in a fun and lively  way.
