2011 PRAY FOR SCHOOLS FORTNIGHT: 8-23 May.
The vision of Pray for Schools fortnight is to bring together people from local churches and those involved in education – parents, students, teachers, meals supervisors, Governors and anyone else with a heart for young people – to pray strategically for schools in their area and those involved in them.
2011 is the 400th anniversary of the official publication of the Bible in English, so we hope to develop resources for the fortnight around ‘Praying the Bible’.
Feedback from 2010 PFS fortnight:
“We had a very encouraging event. The three main schools work organisations in the town worked together on it and 42 people came which we were very pleased about, considering we have them less than two weeks’ notice!”
“We had a most successful day, and with people coming from such a wide variety of backgrounds, we found it encouraging to realize just how many people have a real heart for everyone at the school.”
“I was really blessed to see a teacher from the town come into the prayer room. After he left I took a look at the prayer he had written on one of the prayer walls and it was truly beautiful: ‘Dear Lord, please help me to be a reflection of your love in my school and help me to be there for those who need me’. Simply wonderful; how great to have a man like this as a teacher with influence for the King in our schools!
All in all it was a fantastic week. It’s so exciting to think about what God will have used this period of prayer for our schools to accomplish for His Name and His Kingdom.”
A great evening and around 50 came with testimonies and inspiring stories – including one school who agreed to have a Christian input for the first time (after many years of trying) on the morning of the event! Also a good opportunity to find out just how many schools in our area have prayer groups and/or are prayed for in other ways.
We had 16 people from 7 different churches. Very good atmosphere. Its only the 3rd one we’ve done, and we plan to do one a term, so the message is filtering out steadily. Worship and praise to start with, then several short periods of prayer, with me giving some pointers before each prayer time. Briefly interviewed a local deputy head, who gave us 4 specific things to pray for for people in senior management positions. A very encouraging evening.
