National Pray Day in Surrey

TUESDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2009
tree[1]We had a busy few weeks preparing for the National Pray Day. Prayer groups painted trees and cut out leaves and fruit so that all the children in the schools could write their prayers. One school chose to put their ‘messages’ in a bottle and another sewed a prayer quilt. Twelve schools took part. Youth ministers, a headteacher and our local assembly team talked to the children about talking to God based on The Lord’s Prayer. Everybody was very excited especially the children. Prayer groups helped the little ones with their prayers – it was a fun time and I am sure made God smile!
On Tuesday we brought all our prayer-full trees to the church and we celebrated and listened to school workers and teachers telling us about life in school. A local speaker gave a talk on Philippians 4 – reminding us that when we pray, to pray with thankfulness and anticipation for God’s good gifts. And we invited friends to join the new Child Prayer Team starting in the New Year.
It was a lovely evening with lots of time for prayer and catching up with each other.
